I attempted to update my Updraft Plus plug-in to the latest version from version 1.16.69 and I received the following message:

Update Failed: Could not copy file. updraftplus/includes/blockui/jquery.blockUI.js

Just prior to trying to update the plugin, I ran a back-up with my existing version of Update Plus and it worked fine. I have plenty of space on my website with my hosting company.

Any suggestions as to what is causing the error message.

    Thanks
    Dale

    Hi Dale,

That sort of pattern, of WordPress failing to copy one of the files mid-update, is almost always caused by a lack of disk space or web hosting account quota. How much space do you have?

If it’s not that, you’d have to ask your web hosting company why the files fail to copy. When WordPress updates a plugin, all it does is download the plugin zip file, and unzip it, and copy the files into place.

Thanks David – My web hosting company solved the problem. Although I had lots of disk space on my site, I was near the limit of my Permitted number of files. Once I cleared out some old WordPress files, the number of files was reduced and I have adequate room now to install my plug-in updates.
    I really appreciate your assistance.
    Dale
