I re-designed my site, from a non-WooCommerce to a WooCommerce platform. The new site has been live for about a week.
I had deleted my old sitemaps and created new ones.
I had placed a number of 301 Redirect lines into the .htaccess which seemed to be producing “500 server error” messages. My host advised me that this cannot be done in WordPress, so I removed the lines.
The site is still being visited constantly by the Google bot, Bing and others, looking for the old URL’s.
Is this plug-in considered to be a better alternative to removing the old URL’s from Google Search Console, or do they accomplish different things, on different timelines?

Those are 2 completely different things. Removing a link in GSC is only a Google thing. It has absolutely no effect on Bing or any other search engine. When you do a redirect then it’s the same for everything.
I really wouldn’t remove those URLs. They are not bad in any way they just need to be redirected to new ones.
