• Hi all,

I’ve just upgraded one of my sites to 3.0 RC2 and it’s working fine as expected (i.e. nothing’s changed).

I’ve enabled multi-site in wp-config.php and disabled the plugins but when I went to ‘Network’ I got a warning about changing the siteUrl to the root of the domain first.

I can’t do that on this installation i.e. it MUST be in a sub-directory called ‘/Blog’.

Is WordPress 3.0 (RC2) with multi-site/network still possible with this configuration? I’m a bit worried about enabling network if it’s going to break the existing site …

    Thanks!

You can still run wp 3.0 multisite from a subfolder, but I do not believe you can do it for subdomain installs.

That is you can do domain.com/Blog/blog1 domain.com/Blog/blog2 etc. but NOT blog1.domain.com blog2.domain.com etc.

    Hi there,

Yep you’re right – you CAN do it. I was just wondering about the warnings associated with enabling this behaviour, that’s all.

I guess I’ll just have to try it out and see it happens. ??

Definitely can’t get this to work, receive following error under Tools > Network :

Error: Your WordPress address must match your Site address before creating a Network. See General Settings.

Are you trying to install WP 3.0 Multisite in a subfolder, but have it ACT in root?

That is https://domain.com/wp is where your files are, but you want visitors to get that by going to https://domain.com ? Cause that does NOT work.

@ipstenu : that’s exactly what I was after. understandably i could see there being some conflict. i got in the habit of installing wp in a subdir and acting out of root as a general security precaution and keeping root dir uncluttered. no biggie. good to know though.

Yeah, sorry about that. The brightest minds of our generation have banged their heads against the wall over this one and come up short ??

I too like to keep root uncluttered, but I’ve learned to live with it ??
