Four of my sites displayed a critical error message when the update completed in each case:

“There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.”

The sites appear to be working fine otherwise. Here’s the message I received from WordPress:

Since WordPress 5.2 there is a built-in feature that detects when a plugin or theme causes a fatal error on your site, and notifies you with this automated email. In this case, WordPress caught an error with one of your plugins, Jetpack. (message continues)…

    Any ideas, please?

Was there any additional information, specifically any additional error information?

I’ve seen a couple reports of errors being thrown during the upgrade that resolved once the upgrade was complete.

That’s what I’m wondering. The sites all seem to be up and working fine. I’ve provided all the messages received.

Thanks for responding so quickly, Brandon!

    Hi @mgc,

Thank you for reporting this. Our developers checked on the problem, and we’ve confirmed this error shouldn’t cause any issues on your site. The error resolves itself during the process of updating the Jetpack plugin, and the error should not occur again now that the plugin update is complete.

Sorry for the false alarm! I can see and confirm that your site is up and running okay as expected, and Jetpack is beautifully connected with your site right now.

You should be all set ??

I’m going to mark this thread as solved. If you have any further questions or need some more help, you’re welcome to open another thread here. Cheers!

Same thing with with almost all of our sites. I get the critical error message in pink. However, if I just refresh the page the plugin appears to have updated to 10.5 and all sites appear to be functioning and displaying properly.

Nerve-wracking nonetheless… with almost 100 sites sounding alarm bells followed-up with the notification email!

Same on my two sites. Critical error warning but then update completed and all looks fine. I never received any error message at my admin email, which is odd. Disconcerting to say the least, but all appears to be working.

    I experienced this too.

I’m glad to know I wasn’t the only one with this issue. Thanks for sharing your experience, everyone, and thanks to Automattic for responding!

    Cheers,
    Michael
