Stop Interitance of Active Submenu Styling

Hey people, I’m trying to style a main menu. Active pages are highlighted with a ‘pointer’ centred above menu text, sub-menus do not show this graphic. I’m trying to stop ‘pointer’ graphic from showing when parent page is in active state, but cannot work out how to achieve this…
