Hello, I’m Bruno and it’s my first posting here.

Last evening I’ve tried to migrate website from Bluehost to SiteGround. After starting website crashed, but assuming that it was related with server capacity I let ir running.
In the morning I’ve detected that WP version 5.8.3 was automatically updated.

I’ve stopped the process, but website was very unstable. With Bluehost support previous WP version was restored. I’ve turn off the automatic updates for WP Core, plugins and Themes.

Now I’ve started again SG Migrator and during “Website Migration in Progress” WP was again updated to version 5.8.3.

Is it a normal procedure for SG Migrator or I must cancel and do it again?

    Thanks for your support.
    Bruno

    Hello @whecommerce,

Upon the website migration we are using the latest stable WordPress core version as a base. So if you are using outdated WP core version, it is getting updated in the process.

I am afraid there is no way to avoid this and we always recommend to use the latest stable version of WordPress core, plugins and themes.

My suggestion here will be to find what is causing the issues you are facing and fix it instead of using outdated software.

    Best Regards,
    Elena

    Thanks for the reply.

I was deactivating all the automatic updates to avoid different versions in the migration. After posting here my question, I’ve contacted SiteGround support that promptly assisted.

Even taken longer than I expect, migration was concluded with success. The negative impact was a downtime longer than expected.

Suggestion: Include in the handbook for SG Migrator certain operational tips that may help a smoother and planned process, namely:
-memory adjustment: at the end I’ve got an error and SiteGround support indicated to adjust memory in previous host… and you have a file already with instructions how to do it.
-advising to upgrade first WordPress and Plugins (allowing to make in a more planned and controlled way before migrating).
-advising to deactivate plugins for a faster process.

These tips would had cut drastically my migration process and the downtime, as it would work at first attempt and not at third with a reverse to previous WP version in old host…

In all the process SiteGround support team answered immediately. Congratulations for that.
