I’m just starting to set up my site.
My shop currently has a page title & subtitle bar at the top saying
    “Products
This is where you can browse products in this store.”
It appears this text was added by default as a placeholder. I want to change it to a more relevant title and subtitle, but unfortunately I can’t find where to do that. My understanding is that the shop page that Woocommerce creates has no content (see Woocommerce Pages). Editing the page in the usual WordPress page editor has no effect, and nothing I do there shows up in the shop.

I’m very new to WordPress, so please explain starting from zero, especially if the solution involves coding. Thanks for any help!

  • Hi there,

You can edit the title, by going to WP Dashboard > Pages.

Be sure to locate the page you want to edit, e.g. Shop, be sure to publish your changes.

    Hi Igor,
Thanks for your ideas. As it turns out, what you described is basically what I’ve already been trying to do.
Working with the Woocommerce designated “shop” page, I’m entering a page title in the title box and a subtitle in a “paragraph” block. When I save and view the page, the title I entered appears nowhere and the subtitle appears as text below the page title bar, not as a subtitle on that bar. As you can see, the page title bar still has the text “Products” followed by the subtitle “This is where you can browse products in this store.” These are the parts I want to change. More ideas?

Incidentally, you can see that the subtitle text is dark grey, which does not show up well against my page title background colour. I’m also trying to figure out how to change that text colour.

    Hi @wieand

    “Products
This is where you can browse products in this store.”

I believe this text is coming from your theme. You can confirm it by temporarily switching to a default theme like Storefront.

Once confirmed, I’d recommend reaching out to the theme author and ask how to change the text as well as its color.

Thanks Maykato! I had assumed these sections of text were were “content” rather than something that came with the theme I picked, but it turned out that you were right – the theme was the issue. After looking around my theme’s website, I’ve got it fixed now.

In case anyone else has this issue, here’s what I found to fix the problem.
    The theme was OceanWP.
    From their support articles:
    Alter the Shop Page title
    https://docs.oceanwp.org/article/481-alter-the-shop-page-title
    Alter the Shop Page Subheading
    https://docs.oceanwp.org/article/482-alter-the-shop-page-subheading
    Remove the Shop Page Subheading
    https://docs.oceanwp.org/article/500-remove-the-shop-page-subheading
I actually didn’t need the subheading, so I removed it. I think someone who actually understands PHP might well be able to change the text colour of the subheading after having a look at the above articles.

    Hi @wieand

Awesome! Thanks for sharing your solution with the WooCommerce community.

It’ll be helpful for others facing a similar issue.
