Another newbie question on network and domains

    Hi all !

    I’m currently running a lifetype install which handles multiple domains (dom1.com, dom2.com, …). When a user creates a blog, he must specify the blog name (blog1 for instance) and the domain (dom4.com for instance). Thus, the blog url is https://blog1.dom4.com …

    Actually i’m evaluating some blogging platforms to migrate to. And wordpress 3 is an interesting candidate. However, after reading so many post on similar subjects here, i can’t find an answer to this question : is there a way to accomplish such a functionality? Is it a “core capability” or do I use a specific plugin?

    If feasible, is it compatible with the use of plugins such as Domain Mapping (because I also want to allow paying users to use their own domain).

    I’m sorry if this question has already been addressed… If it is the case, don’t hesitate to blame me and to redirect me to the right post…

    I don’t think there’s a plugin to date that lets you pick the domain the way you’re describing. Built in, you can pick ‘blog#’, and I know there’s a plugin that lets you handle multiple domains as sub-sites, but … it looks like you want Multiple MultiSite installs.

    The current multiple-domain plugins I know of treat each domain as a sub-site. And by that definition, you’d be making sub-sub-sites.

    Interesting idea, though. It probably could be done.

    Yes, you need a multiple *network* plugin. Totally possible.

    Hello !

    Sorry for this late answer, i was in business travel last weeks.

    If I understand your answers, there is no plugin to do that yet (andrea_r, are you corroborate that ?). And so it must be developed…

    I have some skills in php, but i doesn’t know WP. What are your recommandations :
    – try it by myself (cheap, but not risk-free ??
    – search, and search and search to find a plugin to adapt
    – buy a specific development

    Thanks Andrea, it is exactly what I was searching for and I will promptly try it…

    Has someone feedback to share on this plugin : implementation, compatibility (especialy WPMU Dev plugins), stability, … ?
