Indent list so inline with text paragraph

    Hello,
    I have a page of text paragraphs and lists (both bullet and numbered).
    The problem is that lists are not in line with the text.
    I have seen there is a plugin that promises to fix that but I would rather have fewer plugins. I also edited the html to replace
    <ul><li> …
    with
    <ul style="padding-left: 30px;"><li> ...
    but that gives me “unexpected or invalid content”

    Is there a wordpress solution to this?

    Whilst it is out of line on editing, when I looked at the site via live link, it is perfect.
