    Good evening,

I have a problem with free shipping concerning variable products.

Free shipping works great at non variable products (minimum amount 50,- euro). But I can place an order with 10 variable products with an amount of 150,- euro, but I still need to pay the shipping costs. My settings for the variable products are the same as for any simple product, because I thought the free shipping is calculated at the total amount.

I hope you understand my problem and can explain what I’m probably doing wrong.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hello,

Were you able to fix the issue already? I just added a variable product to cart, and if the subtotal is over 50, free shipping is applied for me. Below is a screenshot of how it looks like on my end.

If there is a different product I should look at, could you share the direct link to that product?

Thank you for your reply! I’ve made two screenshots so you can see an example of products where it goes wrong.

    Thanks in advance.

If the location of the customer on checkout is not part of the regions in the shipping zone, the free shipping rule may not apply.

Can you provide a screenshot of your Shipping zones and methods?

Yes, of course. Free shipping is applied when the shipping adress is in the Netherlands and the ammount is above 50,- euro. For other countries in EU it’s above 100,- euro and for countries outside EU there’s no free shipping.

    Settings 1

    Settings 2

And I thought it was only with variable products, but I also get it if I order this product twice.

Can it maybe be related to the ammount of tax? If the total ammount without tax is under 50,- euro, that free shipping isn’t applied while the order with tax is above 50,- euro?

    Hi @goodpointcc,

Thanks for taking the screenshots. Unfortunately, I’m not able to open them. Could I get you to upload them to the Media Library on your site and share the URL to them here in your reply?

    Thanks!

    @3sonsdevelopment Of course!

I’ve also tried to deactivate the free shipping per product plugin but that wasn’t the problem.

Do you maybe already know what the problem could be?

    Thanks!

    Hi @goodpointcc,

Thanks for sending over those screenshots. I didn’t see anything that appears to be off there. Also, when I add a variable product to the cart, I am getting free shipping when the total is more than €50. If the total is less, there is a charge for shipping.

Could you give us the exact steps we need to take to replicate this? Something like, go to this URL. Add 3 of this variation to the cart. Use this sample address and see the issue. For test addresses, I often grab the street addresses of hotels in the area off of Google.

Let us know what to do and that will help us, help you.

    Thanks!

Thank you for your reply @3sonsdevelopment!

If I order this product (5x 350 gram, 52,50 euro) in an incognito browser and use any address in the Netherlands (for example, zipcode “3067 NE” -> Rotterdam) I still get the shipping costs.

    Hi @goodpointcc,

Thanks for the detailed instructions on how to replicate the issue in your store.

I’ve performed some testing on one of my test sites with only WordPress, WooCommerce and the default Storefront theme enabled and was not able to reproduce the same behavior.

This is a screenshot when 4 items have been added to the cart and the total is less than $50.00. As you can see the flat rate is applied correctly.

Then here is another screenshot when I added 5 items to the cart. In this case, the shipping method “Gratis” appears since the total is over $50.00.

The following step for you would be performing a conflict test to see if the issue is caused by a plugin or theme conflict with WooCommerce.

Here are the steps for doing a conflict test:

Let us know how it goes.
