I use a courier service to deliver my products. Sometimes I get extra charges for shipping to a rural address so I need to add a special extra ticket to the package.

What would anyone suggest is the easiest way to add a rural option for the user to select? I have several shipping regions and want to avoid duplicating them, adding the word ‘rural’ to the shipping cost and doing it that way.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Hi @jamesprw – this may depend highly on what you’re using to provide the rates to your customers for their orders. What service provider are you currently using?

But to be clear separately, you’re wanting your customers to check a box that will add a fee if they say that they are indeed in a rural area? If that’s all you’re wanting to do, you could always look at something like this: https://woocommerce.com/products/woocommerce-checkout-add-ons/

I’m just using WooCommerce shipping options. I’m not using classes, just regions and a rate depending on the region.

I’d prefer not to have to pay for an add-on even though it sounds right for me – but increasing my costs isn’t going to help me right now.

Any other suggestions are highly appreciated. If there’s no other options I will just duplicate all my shipping regions (there are 3 of them) to include a rural choice one of which they must use ad checkout.

    Hi @jamesprw!

As mentioned earlier, a good way of getting this done will be using the WooCommerce Checkout Add-Ons. But another workaround will be duplicating the shipping regions, as you mentioned.

    Hi there,

We haven’t heard from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved. Feel free to start a new thread if you have any more questions.

I can’t duplicate the shipping regions – adding a new shipping entry requires zones, and I have to pick those from a dropdown. There is no way to customize them that I can find.

I did reply in an email but didn’t get an answer. I asked for how I might be able to do that by duplication using the existing package I have. I mentioned that it would cost me more than my current level of sales supports, so I’m kind of stuck. I’m looking for some other option.

    Thanks for any assistance.

Unfortunately, duplication of shipping zones is not available at the moment.

This is a fairly complex development topic. I’m going to leave it open for a bit to see if anyone is able to chime in to help you out.
