Hi I have started trying Maipoet 3 and have successfully sent emails using sendgrid, and SMTP using O365 and also SMT sendinblue.

When I look at email logs, I can see that one transactional email fails every time, while all the others are working fine. The one email that never sends is the email sent by wordpress when plugins are automatically updated.

This only occurs when using the Mailpoet plugin, regardless of the mail sending service.

Please see example of admin screen of the email log, which is filtered to show the emails that doid not send. Link below.

…if you could please take a look and advise that would be appreciated. I did look through the KB and search for similar topics but could not find an answer.

    Thanks

    Hi there @yaseico,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Can you please let us know what’s set in the Send all site’s emails with… option found in MailPoet > Settings > Advanced.

    Thanks!

    Hi @guicmazeredo

thanks for getting back to me. The setting you asked about is currently set to:

“The current sending method – SMTP (recommended)”

I chose this setting because I am currently using my Sendinblue account using SMTP configured in the plugin.

    Thanks

    Hi Tim,

Sendinblue account using SMTP configured in the plugin

Can you please confirm other transactional emails (not MailPoet newsletters) are being sent properly?

Please note that the error “Could not instantiate mail function” means that your mail server failed to send an email.

As you’re sending with Sendinblue, please note they apply an hourly sending bandwidth. So if you have reached the quota limit, the email would not be sent.

Also, your transactional emails will not be sent if all of your credits in your Sendinblue account have been used.

In case this is a conflict with the sending method selected in our plugin’s settings, you may want to go to MailPoet > Settings > Advanced and change the sending method for transactional emails to the default WordPress option.

And then let us know if it works!

Hi Bruna, thanks for getting back to me. I have been doing some further testing and can answer your questions / comments as follows:

    1. All transactional emails are being sent – other than the one following plugin auto update.
    2. I checked all the logs in sendinblue and 100% of all email submitted by the website are sent successfully (so in the case of the wordpress plugin auto update transactional email, the email does not get sent to sendinblue)
    3. The sending limit and credits are not applicable as only a few test emails are currently being sent
    4. I tried different SMTP sending services with Mailpoet including O365 and sendgrid and the same issue arises.
    5. I deactivated Mail poet and used another plugin to send emails (WP Mail SMTP) using sendingblue and all transactional emails including the WordPress plugin auto updated email are being sent.

I am not sure what else I can do other than to use another plugin. My main concern is that other transactional emails may fail to send and I would not be aware of it. Are there any other suggestions?

    Thanks for your help
    Tim

    Hi there @yaseico,

Thanks for getting back to us!

Can you please enabled logging in MailPoet > Settings > Advanced > Logging > set it to Errors only?

After your “Some plugins were updated automatically” emails fail to send again, please check the logs by clicking “See logs” next to this setting.

If the log is truncated, please copy the full log from the wp_mailpoet_log table in your database. You can paste its message body here. Please redact the sensitive information from the log before pasting.

    Cheers!

    @yaseico,

Correction: you don’t have to go to the database. When the log is available, use cmd + click on the log’s message and it will get expanded.

Hi @treibalen, thanks for the reply. I did some more testing:

    1. I tried setting the mailpoet log setting to “everything” as the default is errors only and there was nothing in the log already.

    2. I sent a test email using mailpoet settings. The test email was sent and received successfully using sendinblue.

    3. I check the mailpoet advanced “see logs” and there was no log data.
    4. I checked the DB table “..mailpoet_log” and there is no data in the table either
    5. I enabled auto updates for some plugins
    6. The plugins were updated automatically some time later
    7. I checked the email log and there was a failure to send error listed.
    8. I checked the mailpoet logs again and still there is no data displayed and also no data caputured in the DB table.

    Any further throughts?

    Thanks
    Tim

    Hi @treibalen

Ok I will do that. Thanks for helping, I really like the plug-in so if I can get the issues resolved I can plan to use the premium version an my sites.
