I’m trying to set up WooCommerce + WooCommerce Payments for a staging website I’m currently building (Cloudways hosting, GeneratePress Premium, GenerateBlocks free version). I don’t want to use Jetpack so it’s not currently installed, but I keep getting a Jetpack error. I do understand that WooCommerce uses Jetpack for payment processing even if the plugin is not installed.

Every time I try to complete the WooCommerce setup (Payments/Finish Setup), it gives me the following error:
There was a problem connecting this site to WordPress.com: “Jetpack requires your site https://wordpress-588744-2133247.cloudwaysapps.com to be publicly accessible.”

I have seen some documentation suggesting that sites with Jetpack need this code on staging sites (https://jetpack.com/support/staging-sites/). Do I still need to turn on staging mode (by editing wp-config.php) if Jetpack is not installed? I’d rather not edit core files if Jetpack isn’t even installed (I’m technical, but I’m not a coder, and it seems risky to mess with core files if you aren’t a developer).

The welcome emails I’ve received from WooCommerce say that you need Jetpack to use WooCommerce Payments, but this doesn’t match their documentation, which says you can use WooCommerce Payments without Jetpack (https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/payments/faq/jetpack/#:~:text=The%20Jetpack%20plugin%20is%20not,not%20required%20for%20the%20connection.).

I have very few plugins installed, but the problem persists even if I disable them and turn on a default WordPress theme. I appreciate any help you may be able to provide.
