I’m making SEO improvements on my website and noticed one of the bigger errors is from “title tag missing or empty”. The 50 posts flagged for this are all web stories.?

I checked with the Web Story support team and they recommended I reach out to your support team, as Yoast SEO is what?is used to make breadcrumbs.?Do you have any recommendations as to how I’m able to fix this issue??

    Thanks so much!

    Hi @lifeinjordosworld

We understand you are receiving an error of ‘title tag missing or empty’. Just to clarify, is this an error message you are seeing when you are editing one of your Web Stories, or is this coming from Google Search Console or somewhere else?

If you could upload a screenshot on a website such as snipboard.io or imgur.com and share a link to the image of the error message you are receiving, this would be helpful, so we could understand this issue is regarding the breadcrumb schema or the actual <title> tag in your web stories.

    Hey Michael,

This is an error I’m seeing in Google Search Console. Here are a few screenshots of what I’m referring to: https://imgur.com/a/ucRlwUe

    Thank you!

    Hi @lifeinjordosworld

    Thanks for providing that screenshot.

We see that GSC is reporting the following errors related to the structured data:

-either “name” or “item.name” should be specified
    -Missing field “item”

When we run the Rich Results Tools test for one of your web stories here, we do see the same errors. We viewed the page source of this web story and we see that the listitem is indeed showing as blank:

    "itemListElement":[{"@type":"ListItem","position":1,"name":""}

Can you please try resetting our indexables in the database tables by following the steps below?
    1. Install & activate the?Yoast Test Helper plugin
    2. Go to Tools > Yoast Test
    3. Locate the Yoast SEO section and click on the ‘Reset indexables tables & migrations’ button. The page will reload to confirm that each reset was successful. Note: this won’t actually erase your SEO data, which is also stored in WordPress’ default tables. It’ll just reset our index (custom tables) for that data.
    4. Go to SEO > Tools, and under SEO data, click the “Start SEO data optimization” button to allow Yoast to rescan your?content.

For your site’s health and safety, we recommend creating regular backups of your site and database. This is especially important before installing, updating or removing plugins. Learn more about the benefits of regular backups.

Could you then run one of your web stories URLs again in Google’s Rich Results Tool and see if the error has been resolved?

Otherwise, it might be a plugin or theme conflict on your website, and we would then recommend a conflict check after, just to rule out the possibility of a plugin or theme conflict.

    Hi, Michael,

Thanks for your help here. Pretty sure this worked—at least, it did in the Rich Results Tool, as far as I can tell. Running it through GSC’s issue fix validation now.

    All the best,

    Jordo
