  • Run through this official Vimeo support article and check the code on your site to see what might be the reason:

    https://vimeo.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115015759768-Fullscreen-button-missing-from-the-player

If you don’t understand what the various scenarios are, share your page address so I can check it for you.

And just an FYI, I just inserted a Vimeo video link into a Vimeo block in the block editor (aka Gutenberg), and as you can see in the screenshot below, the full-screen button is present.

I have this same problem all the time. It’s so frustrating to be watching something on Vimeo, and then have it show up in a tiny window or with a box around it because I can’t figure out how to get the full screen option. Usually what I do is just hit the f12 key. Occasionally I use cmd F11 instead, but that doesn’t work for me as often by extension of the specific blogging software.

As I’m not able to replicate the problem at my end, I need a live link to a page where the problem is occurring, so I can check what code is generated on the page.

Also, how exactly are you adding the Vimeo video? Are you using the block editor’s Vimeo block as in my example above? Are you adding embedding the Vimeo embed code in a Custom HTML block? Are you using the Classic Editor? Are you using some 3rd-party plugin to embed the video Vimeo video?

    Standing by.

    I have the same issue

I add the Vimeo link to the Vimeo embed box in the editor and it shows up with the full-screen option when I click on the Preview option at the top of the post.

But when I click on Update and get the little black box at the end of my post that says – Post updated -view post – the full-screen option is gone on the page that appears ??

I have also tried to code it with HTML instead – but the same thing happens- it looks ok on the editing page and on the preview page – but once I go to the posted page its gone.

here is a video that shows the process :

    <iframe src=”https://player.vimeo.com/video/655889248?h=ae4c1b2022&#8243; width=”640″ height=”564″ frameborder=”0″ allow=”autoplay; fullscreen” allowfullscreen></iframe>

I use Chrome and when I check the browser console I get this warning :
Allow attribute will take precedence over ‘allowfullscreen’.

I get the same warning in Windows Edge – so I guess its not a browser problem.

I have exactly the same problem that ‘pudel1234’ demonstrated in his video. I have two sites, both running the Vantage theme, but the problem with fullscreen button appears only in one of them.

I do not have this problem on my iPhone/ iPad using Safari. But the problem occurs both in MS Edge and Chrome on my pc running Win11

    Example 1 (no fullscreen): https://www.lundqvist-hundeskole.no/59258-2/

Example 2 (same video, fullscreen working): https://www.ny-innsikt.no/fullscreen-test/

In my case it was the plugin “Smush” that caused the problem. After I deactivated it, fullscreen option was back to normal ??

    • This reply was modified 2 years, 9 months ago by vegard69.

    I also have this problem
anybody figured out how to fix that?
and i also use smush… @vegard69 if i do need smush, how can i fix that?
did u replace it with another plugin ?

    • This reply was modified 2 years, 3 months ago by taliabarlev.

My solution was to create a banner with a video button in it.

    OMG!
I just deactivated smush and there was my fullscreen button back to normal!
Thanks – I’d never have guessed.

    Replacing smush right now.

@sixhop, which plugin do u use instead of smush?
