• Is there a FREE Gallery plugin that allows you to do this:

Title: LMS Black 5 No: 45231 ‘Sherwood Forester’ is seen passing through Torquay station working the 1Z26 09:49 Bristol TM to Kingswear ‘Torbay Riviera Explorer’ tour on the 23rd June 2021

    Alt Text: Steam Train

I use FooGallery but you can not do this unless you buy the Pro version. The FREE version makes you put the same ‘writing’ on both Title and Alt Text, which is not great for SEO.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

This is possible with the default gallery block in the default block editor. The title and alt text fields belong to the image, not the gallery. The title does not display in the gallery thumbnail view. What is displayed after clicking a thumbnail depends on whether you choose to link to attachment page or media file. For media file you only see the image file and nothing else. For attachment page, what you see is theme dependent, but title and caption are typical. Of course the alt text attribute goes with all img tags anywhere.

The built-in media library lets you specify title and alt text for any image. The built-in image gallery can link image thumbnails to image attachment pages which should display said title and utilize the alt text in img tags. There are also caption fields where you can add other information.

It’s easier for you to try out the built-in gallery than for me to try to describe it ??

I had the same problem on my affiliate site [unhelpful link redacted], but as the other guy says, you dont need a plug-in to do that. You go to mediagallery upload / or click on your image and you will the title and alt text field you can fill. Easy ??

    (@mitchawe) Thank you.

    I will have a go without using a plug-in.
