Track who uses my website

  • Hey there

    I made a website for a client and I have to send it the entire website so he can migrate it himself

    There is a big chance he might start selling the website I made to others

    is there any code or something I can use to track if other domains are using the site !?

    Whether your client can resell or redistribute the contents of the site depends on your contract with them, so contact your attorney. If you created a theme (or modified an existing one), then your theme inherits a GPL licence. Could you include code that “calls home”? Yes, but it might be illegal, a GDPR violation, or something similar. I don’t think it’s something we can or should help you with.

    I am sure what we are dealing with here is not illegal

    The case is I am giving the client the entire website and its content to download from google drive ( using existing theme )

    I will have access to the website to make some modifications he asked for so I will be able to remove the tracking code or such…

    I just want to know what domain names my website is being used on if he resells it or something like that

    Sorry, I will not help you writing any tracking code. It should be something you can code yourself.

    I would not have asked for help if I knew how to do it myself

    I would not even ask or think about it if it is something illegal or a privacy violation
