Update of reviews not working

    I know this has come up before, and I am aware that the plugin displays only the Google reviews that Google considers most helpful, but I see a strange behavior.

    When I visit my store in Google Maps and see the reviews, the Most Relevant ones do not match those being displayed by the plugin. I even up-voted a certain review in order for it to being regarded more helpful than others, but it still is not displayed by the plugin.

    One explanation to this would be that the plugin totally ignores the reviews that are written in English and only provides the ones in German. Under this assumption it then works as expected. However, I tried to change the language via the settings from German to English, but the update still does not work. Even when the language is set to English, only the German reviews are displayed.

    Is this expected?

    @bonobo1 This is a good question about the review relevance.

    I can explain this: the reviews that you find relevant (as interpreted by Google) will not necessarily match those interpreted as generally relevant by the Places API with the particular language setting.

    I have seen many variations of relevant – particularly when you have written your own review for a business. This review will almost certainly remain one of the most relevant reviews for some time, even if others don’t see it at all.

    All the points you’ve mentioned are correct for the various languages. Each language will have very different reviews presented (if available).

    I recommend using the HTML Import to collect all the reviews, set the appropriate language and then use your own sorting and filtering across different language versions in your website. This will give you a more consistent result and leave less to chance.
