Time setting – New York is 3 hours ahead of UTC

  • The time setting issue has been reported and discussed more than a year ago, however it has not been resolved.

    My settings shows:
    Timezone New York
    Choose either a city in the same timezone as you or a UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) time offset.
    Universal time is 2021-09-08 17:31:34. Local time is 2021-09-08 20:31:34.`

    As you can see it shows local time ahead of Universal time by 3 hours. Today New York is observing DST and should be 4 hours behind Universal time (i.e. 13:31:34 would have been correct).

  • Hi @ludwigkeck! Over a year ago there was an upgrade to the way WordPress (5.3) handled date and time: you can read about it here

    Since you are still experiencing this issue, I wonder if a theme or plugin you are using was not compatible with the upgrade after the changes to time zone handling.

    I would recommend attempting to disable all plugins and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify which one is causing this issue. If you identify one, then you can reach out to that plugin or theme’s support forum for more specific advice on how to fix it.

    This problem exists on multiple sites. These sites are running WordPress 5.8 with theme Twenty-Twenty-One – plugins include JetPack 10.1 — everything is up to date.
