I noticed the wfTrafficRates entry in a site’s database had grown to 700k+ entries and 44MB.

Installed WF Assistant. Hit the “Delete all Live Traffic Data” button. Got a message to confirm it had happened.

Checked DB then, and again today. Still 700k+ entries and 44MB.

Does it rely on Cron to do the purge?

  • Hi

The Delete all Live Traffic Data button only clears the wfhits table which stores all hits visible in Live Traffic page views.

The wfTrafficRates table counts traffic per visitor IP if Rate Limiting is enabled. Older records should be automatically removed, so this table should not be large.

Cron jobs may not be running on your site properly so to check that can you send your Wordfence diagnostics report. Please go to the top of the “Diagnostics” tab on the Wordfence “Tools” page. There will be a “SEND REPORT BY EMAIL” button to send the diagnostics report. Enter wftest [at] wordfence [dot] com as the email and mintynz as the forum username please.

Once you have emailed me the diagnostics report can you reply here to let me know that it has been sent. This is important in the unlikely event that your installation of WordPress is having an issue with sending mail.

Hey @wfphil , thanks for the comprehensive answer. The clarification on what ” Delete all Live Traffic Data” actually does is very useful.

I do indeed have define(‘DISABLE_WP_CRON’, true) to improve WP performance, with a cron job set via Cpanel to run every minute instead.

But checking the Diagnostics tab (thanks for pointing me to that!) I can see the jobs are all overdue.

I’ve set define(‘DISABLE_WP_CRON’, false) and will see what happens, and will do further investigating as to why the Cpanel Cron job was not firing properly.

    Many thanks.

Followup: Cron jobs in Diagnostics all show fine and the wfTrafficRates entry is now tiny.

    Success!

After deleting the live traffic data it stopped showing any live traffic data at all

    Hi @guestofhonor

Did you just delete the rows in the wfhits table, or did you delete the whole table itself?
