• I setup GHPSEO on a website and am noticing that the Head Description I am setting within the GHPSEO options for that post that displays on the homepage are not getting overwritten. According to the instructions in the plug-in, it says “If you would prefer to set your own meta description, just check the following box, and the alternative description you specify while writing or editing a post will be used instead.” I have done that and the plug-in is still not pulling the description or keywords from the post itself. Has anyone come across this or does anyone have a solution for it?

    Thanks!

  • Hi ywickham,

For feedback from the author of a plugin, it’s always best to check their own site, rather than the general www.remarpro.com forum. (It’s just by sheer dumb luck that I stumbled on your post just now; I might not be here again for months.)

But to your question: you’ve said the head description that you’ve set “for that post that displays on the homepage are not getting overwritten”… The home page displays the description and keywords that you have specified for the home page, while individual posts display the description and keywords you’ve set for that individual post. So, if you mean to say that you’d like your homepage keywords and description to change on a regular basis, depending upon what post happens to be at the top of the heap that day, I’m afraid that what you’re seeing is a ‘feature’, not a bug. ??

If I’ve misunderstood, and you’re saying that you never see individual posts displaying the information you’ve entered for description and keywords, then it’s more likely that your theme is missing the all-important wp_head call, that another plugin is messing with your head section via output buffer hacks, or that gremlins have invaded your back yard.

    I hope that help!

    All the best,
    Greg

    Hi Greg,

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I did check your website, but it only occurred to me to comment on the plug-in thread and the comments for it were already closed. I was hoping to make sure that I really did have some weird buggy problem with the plug-in before bothering you, hence I headed here.

And thank you for the clarification. With all the information, my client nor I made the connection that I would have to specifically set those two meta tags from within the plug-in panel versus the post itself. So you are right…no bug, just a feature. ??

I did notice though, my client has more keywords than your plug-in writes for the keyword meta line. Yet, I see no mention of a limit in your docs for the number of characters allowed in the field. Are there any plans to allow more characters?

    Thanks again!

    Best,
    Yazmin

    Hi ywickham,

If you have a peek at the plugin configuration page’s ‘Head Meta’ tab, and look under ‘Head Meta Content: Keywords’, there are settings both for the maximum number of tags included in the keywords and for the maximum overall length of the keywords tag.

    All the best,
    Greg

p.s. If you didn’t mind marking this top as ‘resolved’, that would be great.

I’m having a problem related to this.

I have a static page set as the homepage and have set the “custom home page description” has a default value of “%blog_name%: %blog_desc%”. Yet, when I view the page, the meta description has been populated with the static page’s content!? This plugin is so good that I must be doing something wrong.

To add to this, if I set the description on the static page itself, it works. This is completely opposite to how the documentation says it should work. The “static front page” description is not overriding the value.

    HELLO?
