• I am facing a problem with wordpress about which i am really not sure how its happening that’s why want to discuss it here with you guys here is what i am facing.

Everyday my wordpress site goes down for a hour or so and it can happen multiple times a day during that period no one can access my site but as soon as i open my wordpress admin panel i start getting visitors again. You might ask that how i know it? actually i am using a who’s online plugin and another external tracking tool which let me know that there are 0 visitors online right now i have a site with good amount of traffic during all the 24 hours and its not possible that my online visitors remain 0 even for a minute how can it happen for hours? The number of online visitors start increasing as soon as i open my wordpress admin panel i start getting visitors from different sources like google search yahoo search direct traffic etc

It’s really not a server down issue or 500 Internal Server issue its just something like a wordpress down issue within the script or the database probably and i started noticing it from last couple of weeks even today it happened twice.

I am using a VPS with a good amount of free memory and there is not much load on it.

So any help from you guys? Are you able to figure out whats actually happening?

  • Link to your website please as that would be helpful so we can see the website for ourselves.

Also, you may wish to go over Apache and MySQL logs and see if any of them had any issues.

I have already checked all the logs and it seems everything fine there.

    Here is the site link

Its not a 100% English language site.

I am going to share some screen shots here if i see the issue again.

That really doesn’t look like WordPress is going down. What I see is that, according to the plugin, 0 users were online during the first screen shot, and 9 users were online during the second screen shot about a minute later. This is entirely normal, even for a site with high traffic.

The problem with counters like Who’s Online is that they only display the number of users online at the specific moment that you view the widget. It is entirely possible to have zero users online at one minute and several the next, even for a high traffic site.

Here are three things that I would recommend:

    1. Get rid of any counter like Who’s Online, they’re just misleading.

    2. Get a real-time stats program running, like WordPress.com Stats or Mint. This will allow you to see in real-time (with graphs, lists, etc.) how your site is being accessed, how often, by whom, from where, etc. It’s like a counter on steroids.

    3. Sing up with a free site monitoring service, like Pingdom or Uptime Robot. These services will check your site every five minutes and alert you if the site is offline or returning any sort of error header.

    Thanks for your reply macman

Actually in my first post i mentioned i am not only using this plugin but also an alternative real time stat program Site Meter and i notice same issue with that program also.

I am using 2 server monitoring services and never have any issue with my server.

So what happens when you go to the site during this “down time”? Is the site viewable?

    Thread Starter Wasee

    (@wasee)

That’s what i am not sure about because i can only notice it through admin panel or through the multiple stat services i am using.

It’s happening like 100 visitors and 800 views in a hour and thn 0 visitors and 0 views in the next hour

I know it’s sound like i am getting crazy but believe me this problem is getting weird for me…

Maybe your server’s MySQL service is going down? You may want to check your server logs the next time you notice the “downtime”.

If you aren’t seeing the actual site inaccessible then my guess is that it’s not inaccessible. As macmanx said, traffic can fluctuate from minute to minute. I wouldn’t rely on a who’s online plugin to determine if my site is viewable. Have any of your visitors indicated they were unable to access the site?

I am also thinking about it might be mysql because i did notice my site is getting slow it can be because lot of mysql queries?i have 20+ plugins integrated with my site and most of them generates bunch of queries. That’s why i shifted to a VPS from Shared Hosting

Yes i am not replying only on that plugin i have multiple programs if that was the only plugin thn surely i was gonna blame it but its not.
