My pages are all showing the same meta description – my landing page description in google although I’ve added custom descriptions to the pages in yoast.

This is an example page – it’s sitewide though.
I see this in the source code –

<meta name=”description” content=”Liquor flyer for Crowfoot Wine & Spirits in Calgary Alberta and area.”>

what could be conflicting? any suggestions appreciated.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

@abbyd We checked on your site in a Google search here and are not seeing the same meta description for the pages shown in the search results (see image here).

Is this issue affecting only specific pages on the site? And if so, can you please provide us with example URLs of the pages so that we can check into this further?

They all appear the same in google here:

I also noticed the descriptions appearing under site:crowfootliquor.co

are different than what I inputted in yoast in some cases.

for example the contact page here:google

    and here are different: yoast

doesn’t seem like yoast is working at all…
is there something I could have done to conflict with it working?

@abbyd The area that you are referring to with the links shown below the search results are the so-called Sitelinks, and they are automatically generated by Google based on your site structure. It’s not based on our plugin’s settings. The Yoast plugin automatically adds all the necessary Schema needed to generate Sitelinks. So you won’t need to change anything from the plugin.

You could signal to Google which links you want to appear by using the following actions:

did you take a look at the comparison of the meta descriptions from within your plugin and on google as I previously posted?

for example the contact page here:google

    and here are different: yoast

Are these meta descriptions supposed to be controlled by yoast? doesn’t seem to be working.

I have no problem with the chosen sitelinks. It’s the descriptions under the sitelinks.

Thanks for following up with us. We looked at your site and can confirm that Yoast SEO is generating different meta descriptions based on your input on your website. In addition, we see that Google is showing different meta descriptions and doesn’t match to what you have defined in Yoast SEO.

We can confirm that Google often modifies the SEO title and meta description in the search results. It even rewrites them completely in some cases. You will find more information and troubleshoot steps given here: https://yoast.com/help/my-meta-descriptions-arent-showing-up-in-the-search-result-pages/
