Custom fields used by Search – part 1

This directory is a list of people who will do “bee removals” in our state (these people are the members of our organization). It is viewable to the general public. When someone comes to our directory, they are (almost always) looking for someone who can help remove problematic honey bees. In order to pare down the list of our members to the people who can serve these public people the best, I need to make the visitor FIRST make 2 search parameter choices:
1) Are they looking for someone to remove a SWARM or a COLONY?
Side note: Swarms are amazingly simple to remove – pretty much any beekeeper can do it (I have kid beekeepers who are 10 years old who do this). Colony removals by contrast, usually require a professional who charges money for the 3-12 hours of work it takes (using their specialized tools & skills); professionals like this usually carry business liability insurance. We have members of both kinds – both people who join who only capture swarms as well as professionals who do colony removals as their livelihood. When a visitor to the site chooses, “Colony Removal”, I want them to get a list of ONLY the members who are Professional Bee Removers.
IF the visitor chooses “Swarm”, I want them to get a list of ALL of the members. The question is: how should I setup the Categories in the database to best accomplish this?
Should they each be a Parent Category?
A Parent category of “all removers”, with a child category of “Professionals”?
A parent category of “all removers”, with 2 child categories (one is “Professionals”, one is “Swarms”) ?My gut tells me the last option is probably my best one. But I’m not sure.
The 2nd search parameter choice will be in a follow up post..
