I sent a bunch of questions in a single post more than a month ago, but am just now getting back to working on the website. So this time, rather than trying to ask everything at once, I’m going to break things up into separate posts.

Background: This is a list of people who will do “bee removals” in our state (these people are the members of our organization). This list will be viewable to the general public (without login).

I am trying to figure out which template works best for what I am trying to accomplish, as well as which addons I need to buy. I’m spending a non-profit association’s money here, so I have to be more careful than if I was just spending my own…

Let’s start with the template first… For the display, (after all search parameters are met), I am wanting something fairly small & compact, probably in columns like this:

First & Last Name (bold & bigger font)
Business Name (if there is one)
City, State (but NOT the whole address)
preferred phone # (just 1 if)
    email address

All of it Left Justified, in a font & size of my choosing. No profile pic (yet).
The # of columns should be responsive to the width of the screen. Just looking at my computer screen, and the size of my browser window, I’m thinking I should be able to see the at least 3 columns for the list.

Each contact should be “boxed” (have a boarder) and inside the box (top, right corner) needs to be a “down triangle / arrow” someone can click on to expand the entry. When someone hits the arrow to expand, THEN they get profile picture, full address, website, bio – basically similar to what you get in “Slim Plus”.

I guess what I’m asking for is “does Slim Plus” allow more information on the “non-expanded view” than just the name? And can it be “columnized”? If not, what other template can do what I’m looking for?

Note that putting this is columns is a desire, but not “required”. But having it neat & tidy IS a necessity.

Probably the closest to this would be the Tile Plus template. Here’s the link so that you can take a look:

The number of columns is based on the tile size, this is adjustable, and the theme’s content width. On devices with smaller screens, if the theme is responsive, the number of tiles in a row will change based on the theme’s content width on that screen size.

The font-family is inherited from the theme, but the font-size is set in the template’s CSS. To change either would require custom CSS.

RE: Each contact should be “boxed” (have a boarder) and inside the box (top, right corner) needs to be a “down triangle / arrow” someone can click on to expand the entry. The Tile Plus template does not have a feature where an arrow can be toggled to view more. Instead, you would click on the Entry name and click thru to the Entry’s detail/profile view. If you want the toggle feature, you’ll want Slim Plus instead, but you do not get the columnar layout.

I would suggest Gridder as a potential compromise, but that template is designed around the Entries having a photo image (profile pict).

Sorry, no, not “out of the box”. Making this type of change would require editing its PHP files.

    RE: can it be “columnized”?

I suppose with some custom CSS; it should be possible.

RE: what other template can do what I’m looking for?

You have a particular set of requirements; I do not think any one template will check off each item in your list; each will come with some compromise. There is another solution; a custom template. I do offer custom development services and could develop a custom template for you. If this is an avenue that you would like to pressure, you would have to contact e via my contact form as those discussions are not permitted in the wp.org support forums.
