• Version 8 is horrible, they removed 75% of functions, it no longer registers the 404 that not only allowed to detect problems in the pages but also to know if there are attacks on the site and where they come from to be able to block them. What is this plug-in for? The new interface is horrible, before it was easier to find the configuration options. Go back to the previous version. If anyone knows of another plugin better than this one, let me know.

  • Just wondering what calculation resulted in -75%?

+++++ To prevent any confusion, I’m not iThemes +++++

Look at the history of changes and there you have all the missing functionalities in addition to others that they do not mention. How to be the 404 record.

Ok, if you don’t mind, let me do the math. Feel free to correct me when I make any mistakes.

First the list of modules in the free 7.9.1 release:

    Security Check
    Global Settings
    Notification Center
    User Groups
    404 Detection
    Away Mode
    Banned Users
    Database Backup
    File Change Detection
    File Permissions
    Local Brute Force Protection
    Network Brute Force Protection
    Password Requirements
    SSL (2 settings)
    Multisite Tweaks
    System Tweaks (10 settings)
    WordPress Salts
    WordPress Tweaks (13 settings)
    Admin User
    Change Content Directory
    Change Database Table Prefix
    Hide Backend
    Security Check Pro

    23 modules.

The following modules/settings were removed in the 8.0.x release:

    • 404 Detection
    • Away Mode
    • Database Backup (1 setting)
    • SSL (2 settings)
    • Multisite Tweaks
    • System Tweaks (5 settings)
    • WordPress Tweaks (6 settings)
    • Change Content Directory

So 4 modules got removed and a total of 14 settings were removed in 4 other modules. All the rest is still there …

But also, 3 (Pro) features were added to the free plugin:

    • Security Dashboard
    • Two-Factor Authentication
    • Refused Compromised Password

Let’s assume the (14) lost settings account for 3 modules.

The end calculation then looks like this: 23-(4+3)+3=19

    So: ((19-23) / 23) * 100 = -17,39%

No matter how I try, I just don’t get even close to a result of -75% …

Anyway, (if not already) reading the iThemes Security 8.0 Brings New Design, Features post on iThemes blog is highly recommended.

It is not a question of quantity of functions but of use of functionalities. For me, removing 404 took away 75% of its functionality.

Haha, can’t reason with that …

I’m glad we got this cleared up.

    I’m sure you’ll be able to find a 404 substitute ??

This is an unbelievable update. The amount of attacks happening on my server now are through the roof. I have 250 websites that I now have to find another security plugin for. I will also be finding another syncing program as I will never support this company again.

I was about to start using this plugin but after reading the reviews of version 8 I’m going to look for an alternative.

have you found an alternate plugin?

    No.

You can still run the iTSec 7.9.1 release. Works fine in the latest WordPress (5.8.1) release.

Surely, I’ll see what I do. Thanks.
