Seemingly successful installation isn’t actually working

Hi folks,

I’ve just dont my first manual install of WordPress to a clients domain. Previously I’ve been able to use one-click type installation facilities but this was not available from their host.

So, I followed the Famous 5-min Install instructions and have gotten as far as running the install script, which brings me to the Welcome screen, asking for the blog title and email info. When I fill this in and click ‘install wordpress’ I get a screen full on error messages (REALLY long – all about Database errors), but at the very end of this, it says Success – wordpress has been installed etc. and gives me a username and password. ?! But when I hit ‘login’ I’m brought back to the ‘Welcome!’ screen asking for the blog info again.

Any ideas what I’ve done wrong?
I’m not a programmer so I’ll only be able to follow fairly basic techie stuff. Sorry!
