    Hi,

Today I’ve received this error message from Google Search Console saying “The following errors were found on your site: Either “name” or “item.name” should be specified”.

I’ve linked one of the affected pages to this thread. These are the archive pages resulting from the homepage pagination. I’ve checked single posts and other archives (like the author archive). These pages have values for the above-mentioned variables (name, or item.name). Only the archives coming from the homepage navigation don’t have a specific “name” or “item.name”… In their page source, I can also see this: {“@type”:”ListItem”,”position”:1,”name”:””}]}.

How can I solve this? Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

We’re sorry you’re having trouble with the breadcrumb schema error. I imagine this can be frustrating for you. We’d like to look a closer look.

Could you please go to SEO > Search Appearance > Breadcrumbs(tab) and check if the Anchor text for the Homepage field is empty? Is so, input a text Home and update the setting. Next, check the URL https://banglatech24.com/page/2/ via Rich Results Testing Tool. Do you still see the error?

    Hi @suascat_wp,

Thanks for your response. The anchor text for the Homepage field is “Home” (built-in). The “Enable Breadcrumbs for your theme” option is set as “Enabled”. Still the error is there. (I’ve checked with Rich Results Testing Tool after clearing cache from my site and Cloudflare.)

Please let me know what I should do next ??

    Regards.

Thanks for verifying it and follow up.

Often, we see problems occur in combination with another plugin or theme. The fastest way to rule out any conflict, is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Twenty.

Please test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin has a troubleshooting mode, which does not affect normal visitors to your site.

If you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts

Hi @suascat_wp, just a quick query. Can it be an issue with my theme? Is it possible that the widget I’m using for generating that list of posts, somehow missed the Breadcrumbs? Thanks.

It seems that the issue has been originated after a recent Yoast update. Also, my theme might have an incompatibility issue. I’ve changed my homepage settings (removed the widgets). Now it generates breadcrumbs for the subsequent paginations. I’ll keep it this way and try future Yoast updates to see whether it gets solved. Also, I’ll look for a new version of my theme. Thank you @suascat_wp for you help.

    Hi @arafat_ah

We are aware of an issue where the ‘either name or item.name should be specified’ error for paginated archive pages using custom pagination methods, which sounds like what you’ve described.

It is set to be addressed in the next update of the Yoast SEO plugin (see pull request here) but we’re also glad to hear that you’ve addressed the issue on your end, so we’ll be setting this to resolved. Please also do update when the newest version of the plugin comes out, and see if this addresses your concern.
