• SEO tool is pretty decent, but the Readability feature is pretty much worthless. If you write above a 1st grade level, expect to constantly see that little red dot saying “Needs improvement”. For those of us who can actually write, most of its suggested corrections help little in influencing SEO and only serve to simplify and “dumb down” your writing in a misguided attempt to make it easier for the average person to understand.

Also, why does this plugin update so much? Look at the changelogs, it updates at least three times a month, sometimes more. Way too excessive for what this plugin does. Most of the “updates” could easily be bundled into a single monthly update.

While the SEO tool is useful, that itself is not enough of a reason to use this plugin. Would not recommend.

  • Hi @angryjerknxc,

    Thanks for your review.

We are sorry to hear you aren’t quite satisfied with our plugin.

First of all, we’d like to clarify that the Yoast Readability analysis checks if your text is readable for a general audience. We know that for some writing styles it may be difficult to get a green readability score. We also understand that when following the Yoast readability suggestions you may feel like you’re dumbing your content down. However, you could also try to think of it as opening your content up to an audience you’ve not yet reached. We explain more in this article: https://yoast.com/readability-dumbing-down-opening-up/ Please, note that it’s perfectly fine if your text doesn’t pass some of the individual checks. Our recommendation is to aim for a green overall readability score.

As for the frequent updates, we are fans of continuous delivery and currently release every two weeks. Further information about our release cycle can be found here: https://developer.yoast.com/blog/continuous-delivery-at-yoast/
