I’m setting up a site using wordpress which has some static pages, and a blog.
I structured my permalinks with a custom structure using %postname% so the static pages now display the URL/name of the page. However, the individual blog posts are now showing up like this:

Does anyone know of a way to clean up these permalinks? Is there a plugin that might work? If it’s really, truly complex I probably won’t bother as it’s not a HUGE deal but I think it would be nice to fix this if it’s a relatively easy fix.

  • Try resetting your custom permalinks back to the default setting. If that works, then try reading Using_Permalinks before setting a custom permalink structure back up again.

I did read that, but where it got confusing for me was when using a static + blog structure vs. just a blog – that part was pretty straightforward.
So, seems to me if a static page is %postname% then an actual post would be %postname%/%post_id%.
But I’m still getting extra long permalinks. Not a big deal but if anyone has a more elegant solution I am all ears.

Also, I forgot to mention the theme is 42k. Maybe there is PHP that needs editing?
