Is there a way to reverse the algorithm that matches user together?

Hello! I am using the buddy match plugin for a coaching site. I wanted to ask if I could add some lines of code to somehow reverse the algorithm. Instead of users getting matched on the same inputs like each user has sports. Instead could I have where strengths match with weakness. Coach strengths will match with a players weakness. Does anyone know how to do this? Please and thank you.
