• Hi, I am having issues trying to set new images dimensions within the media settings (Settings > Media). But every time I try inputting new values and pressing save, the values just default back?

This is causing the featured images with post pages to pixelate, which is not the look I am going for.

I have tried adding code to various php scripts, reset cache but nothing changes. I’ve installed plugins such as AJAX Thumbnail Rebuild and Regenerate Thumbnails, but again no luck. They are simply regenerating the inferior pixelated images imported by WordPress. It’s driving me mad!

Has anyone else experienced not being able to change the media settings? I would be really grateful if anyone has any ideas.

  • It sounds like you have some code interfering with WP. You can try using the Health Check plugin in Troubleshoot mode, to disable plugins/theme for your user only, to isolate the problem.

I think you have a misunderstanding of those settings, however.
The theme is the code that displays the featured images, so if they are pixelated, it’s because the theme is ignoring the actual image size and your settings, and using whatever it wants.
Also, the plugins you used to regenerate the thumbnails don’t affect the original image. So if you uploaded inferior pixelated images, that’s the basis of everything going forward. Changing the Media Size options won’t change the original images already uploaded. Those options only affect images as they are being uploaded, but WP doesn’t make images with higher resolution than the original.
