Share count no longer working

I’m using SG Optimizer. Your documentation solved the buttons not working problem but there is still no share count.

Have you found any solution to your problem? I have a similar issue with the facebook share count funcionality.

Unfortunately I haven’t found a solution. I can only confirm there are no plugins causing the issue but I haven’t been able to solve the share count problem for any of my buttons (facebook, twitter, Pinterest, linkedin).

Thanks so much for reaching out to us about this and so glad to hear you were able to get the buttons functioning correctly on your site.

With regards to shares, that’s a bit odd if you aren’t seeing ANY share counts return (especially from a network like Pinterest) but as far as Facebook goes we’ve seen some changes occurring with Facebook’s Graph API on their side of things.

As far as we can tell, Grow Social is doing everything correctly with requesting the share counts from Facebook but Facebook is still returning a 0 count for some posts. Since that is the count sent back from Facebook, that’s the count Grow Social will use.

We have seen a few issues already opened with Facebook’s developers and it appears they’re taking a look at those changes so hopefully fixes to that come soon!

As far as Pinterest goes, would you be able to send us an example URL of a post on your site that has been shared to Pinterest but isn’t returning any counts?

Whoop. Looks like Pinterest is working again, thought it seemed to take awhile even though I had purged the cache. Odd. Though Facebook still doesn’t show share count.

Thanks so much for getting back to me and glad to hear the Pinterest counts are at least tracking properly once more. It’s hard to say why that specifically might have stopped but if it happens again feel free to let us know.

As far as why Facebook isn’t tracking, it does appear to be something on Facebook’s end so far. We’re currently working with our plugin developers as well to see if there’s anything we can potentially do on our end to return these shares but for now we’re stuck with the counts that Facebook’s Graph API is returning.

I’m just following up to let you know that we’ve been keeping track of the share count issue on Facebook’s side of things and it looks like, as far as we can tell, some of the Facebook share count changes were intentional.

It looks like Facebook was having an issue with their Graph API returning 0 shares for some posts above 100 shares which appears to be resolved. As far as posts that have under 100 shares, it looks like they also made a change here where the counts intentionally return 0 shares.

Since we use the Graph API to return those share counts for those posts, if Facebook decides to return “0” shares then that’s what we will use unfortunately.

If you’re still having any issues where posts over 100 shares still aren’t displaying properly feel free to send over a couple of example URLs over and I can take a peek!

I’m still having the same problem with my Facebook share count. When I scrape them with the Facebook debugger it shows that there are indeed some shares, but they don’t show on my posts. This only happens for my latest posts. The older posts show the correct share count.

Can you help me please?

I know Facebook has been making some changes on their side of things routinely so hopefully they were able to iron out the share count issues. ??
