No index child categories

If you want to set a particular category to noindex, you can follow the steps in the article here – https://yoast.com/help/how-do-i-noindex-urls/

Once it has been set to not show in the search results (which adds a ‘noindex’ meta robots tag), it should also be removed from the Yoast SEO sitemap accordingly.

The Yoast SEO sitemap is generated under /sitemap_index.xml and all of the sub-sitemaps are listed based on post type and taxonomy. This also splits the sitemap entries and ensures a clear site structure. Thank you for your response. I did follow the article and the steps in it. It only removed the child category links from the sitemap but it did not add noindex to the pages.

I will try to use the add_filter for modifying sitemap and let you know shortly.

@goldengalaxy Can you please provide us with a link to one of the child category URLs so we can check into this further?

If you’ve set the child category to not show in the search results as per the article here, we would expect that it would have a meta robots tag of ‘noindex’ in the page source and it would be removed from the XML sitemap.

If that isn’t the expected result, there might be a plugin or theme conflict.

Often, we see problems occur in combination with another plugin or theme. The fastest way to rule out any conflict, is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Twenty.

Please test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin has a troubleshooting mode, which does not affect normal visitors to your site.
