I installed the free version of Media Library Categories and today’s the first day I’m trying to use it to clean up categories my Media Library. I opened Media Library in list view mode, then check multiple items I want to change the category for. But, neither the “add” nor “remove” options from the “Bulk actions” category dropdown work. I get a “Category changes are saved” message at the top of the screen when the page refreshes, but the Media Library item categories remain unchanged.

    a) Do you have to buy the Premium version to be able to reassign media item categories?

    b) Do you have to set up the separate category taxonomy for media vs. posts (which I’d rather not do)?

    c) Is it a bug? I’ve got v1.9.9 installed running WordPress v5.7.1.

    Thanks!

    Quick followup –

Realized I needed to disable plugins one by one to see if the problem was a plugin conflict. Once I disabled SG Optimizer – popular plugin from Siteground, utomatically is activated for all WordPress sites on their platform – I was able to reassign media item categories using “Bulk assign.”

Strange enough, upon reactivating SG Optimizer I tried again and was still able to reassign media categories. So, I assume the problem involves server-side caching since the page is making a server round trip once I click “Apply.”

There is a “Purge SG cache” button for their plugin which I’ll try if it happens again. If you know of another potential reason please let me know. Thanks.

Yes, that sounds like a cache issue. But you already figured that one out ??
You are free to choose if you want to use default WordPress post categories are use seperate media categories.
