    on WordPress alone

The “do_robots” generated robots.txt file is returned with a 404 status
which would likely mean search engines would ignore it.

I can add a fix to my theme but i think should be corrected in wordpress core.
Unless there is a good reason as to why it doesn’t return a 200 status

Correction this is not the wordpress core.
I’m trying to narrow down the cause

    Likely a plugin

Seems to have been my nginx config which due to having a separate location specially for robots.txt and favion.ico to prevent adding to access log,

It was locking the response status to 404 even when being redirected to the main index.php.

Removing those locations solved the issue and I didn’t have access log turned on for the whole site anyway.
