Admin privilages lost after upgrade

    I had an old WP installation, something like 2.2/2.3 and needed to do a manual update because an automatic one was not supported in that version.

    After following all the steps, the only thing left for me to do was to log in after the update. Using my old user and pass (the administrator username is not ‘admin’ but ‘Annes’ which I think may be causing the problems) I try to login, but after loging in, I get a WP error that I don’t have the privileges to access wp-admin:
    ‘You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.’

    And somehow, the WP is in Estonian, even though in wp-config.php the language is set to default = ”

    The blog is working fine. I checked the table prefixes as stated by some users, they are the same as the old and new configurations, ‘wp_’

    ok, I solved the language problem, now I’m left with the admin one :/

    Might use phpMyAdmin and look at the usermeta table for that user Annes and make sure the wp_capabilities is a value like:
    a:1:{s:13:”administrator”;b:1;}

    Hey Michael,
    Yeah, I went all over the database, even made another admin user, no luck.
    The wp_capabilities string is the same on Annes, the new admin, and found out that there was a user ‘admin’ but no luck logining from him either, still get the same error.

    I was thinking of somehow forcing a re-upgrade? I deleted all the plugins from the ‘plugins’ folder, but nothing.

    You might redo steps 7 and 8 of Upgrading WordPress Extended.

    Note: Deactivating all plugins will sometimes fix problems–but you’ve deleted the plugins folder which effectively deactivates all plugins.

    I’ll try to delete them, because I just tried re-uploading them and overwriting them to the new files, but nothing happened.

    What I did was I deleted all the files possible, just leaving one custom theme (even renaming it’s folder so as not to be used). Then I uploaded everything new again, even wp-config.php, just filled in the necessary thing.
    Somehow that fixed it, and now I have access to the Dashboard ??
