Issue of duplicate category

we have a weird issue after woocommerce got updated to 5.1 .
when we upload products with categories defined in the csv file, instead of appending the products to the existing categories, a new category is getting created.
eg. if an existing category slug called “shirts” is present, shirts-2 gets created.

I’ve performed some cross-testing for us today on several of my sites which have the latest versions of WordPress, WooCommerce and our free Storefront theme as the only enabled software. When doing so I’ve not been able to replicate the behavior which you described.

The results of this testing Indicate that something on your site is causing this particular behavior for you rather than it being an issue with the free WooCommerce plugin itself.

This kind of problem is usually caused by a conflict with your theme or with another plugin.

The best way to determine this is to:

• Temporarily switch your theme to Storefront
• Disable all plugins except for WooCommerce
• Repeat the action that is causing the problem

If you’re not seeing the same problem after completing the conflict test, then you know the problem was with the plugins and/or theme you deactivated. To figure out which plugin is causing the problem, reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each, until you find the one causing conflict. You can find a more detailed explanation on how to do a conflict test here.

Thank you for testing this and sharing the result. Are you using any 3rd party import/export plugin to import the product/s? If yes, have you tried using the default import tool from WooCommerce?

Also, it will be great if you could share your current System Status Report. You can get it by navigating to the WooCommerce / Status section of your site. Once there, click on the Get system report button and then copy it by clicking on the Copy for support button. Then paste it here in a comment.

Thanks for sharing your site’s SSR. It looks okay to me. However, I wasn’t able to reproduce this on my test sites. Also, I haven’t found this issue reported here. Could you please try and see if you can reproduce this in a completely fresh WordPress environment with only WooCommerce installed? If you can, then please report a bug here.
