    Hi,
When I add an event date and event name to my “historic events” list in WordPress it creates a URL that Google finds and marks it as a 404 error. For example, if I add the date 12/21/1943 then the plugin creates the URL https://myguitarlair.com/this-day-in-history/12-21-1943/, which shows up in Google as a 404 coverage error.

I already have the option “Exclude search results” set to “yes” in the plugin settings.

What is the best solution to this problem?

    Thank You,
    Frank

This has never happen on my sites. Are you using some sort of search plugin?

shows up in Google as a 404 coverage error.

Not sure what you mean by this but I expect you are looking at crawl stats rather than on Google search results (since they don’t tend to show 404 pages).

This isn’t an issue with the TDIH plugin since for some reason Google is trying to search pages that don’t exist. Google will sort itself out eventually. Just delete the crawler errors and move on. If you have a plugin perhaps it is telling Google to try to index custom posts when it should not – you can reconfigure it I expect if not try using a plugin like XML Sitemaps.

Hi & Thank You for your response.

I am not using a search plugin. The only way to search my website is with the search widget that comes with the GeneratePress theme.
The errors are showing up in the coverage section of Google Search Console. How can I delete them?

    Thank You,
    Frank

I think I figured out the problem. I disabled the “index historic events” in AIO SEO. I generated a new sitemap and submitted it to GSC and Bing Webmaster Tools. I also asked Google to validate the fix on my 404 coverage issues. I will wait and see what happens next.
