• Hi,

I work for an internet retailer who specialize in selling clay poker chips – DayNightPoker. They used Drupal to create their complete site.

I have a number of ideas of my own I’d like to publish online and feel Drupal is a little too complex for me to understand – I’m a bit of a newbie when it comes to creating websites. This is why I was planning on using WordPress. My friend says it’s the easiest thing to use to get started creating quite a professional website.

However, I’ve looked at a lot of WordPress websites and can’t see how it would be possible to create anything nearly as professional as DayNightPoker. Is it possible, or is Drupal a better option for a true internet website (including shopping carts, etc)?

Thanks in advance for you professional advice!

    Mary

Have you checked aroudn here to see what is possible?

I tried both joomla and drupal. Honestly, they are just overly hard to use. WordPress can be used to do pretty much anything….the ‘professionalism’ of the site is really going to depend on the person setting it up….

There are a few e-commerce plugins for WP, I use WP-ecommerce

search for them, and check out examples of websites that use theior plugins…..see if you like the solutions.

    Hi RVoodoo,

That’s what I thought. I thought Drupal looked complicated and Joomla more so. Thanks for the link, the sites look very impressive!

I suppose it’s now just down to a bit of practice.

I’m guessing you find the WP-ecommerce plugin works fine?

    I like wp-ecommerce well enough

My version looks a bit amateur-ish, I haven’t had much time to spend on it. I use the free version….I know there are paid upgrades that add a lot of pro looking and pretty cool features that you may want to look into.

There are many many WP themes to get you started if you search. You may find one you like perfectly….or you may just get close and have to tweaka little

Definitely check out the Shopp plugin. It’s not free, but it’s pretty slick. When I was building in small e-commerce site using WP in November 2009, Shopp was the best solution I found. They accept some common payment gateways in addition to PayPal and have a true shopping cart, etc.

Support can be hit or miss… https://forums.shopplugin.net/topic/how-to-get-support

I just looked at the Shopp demo. It looks brilliant! I really didn’t know you could do so much with WordPress. It’s $55 – not free – but not exactly expensive either.

Is it easy to install and configure, or is the slick demo a result of a lot of blood, sweat and tears?
