Nice Plugin But Getting Bloated

  • I’ve used this plugin on several sites and I think it’s great! One thing I’m noticing however is that it has grown larger and it’s starting to affect my Pagespeed scores. Keep up the good work but let’s keep Google in mind as development continues. Thanks!

    The following files all load in the document <head>
    theme.css: 72kb
    Popup.js: 39kb
    PopupConfig.js: 6kb
    PopupBuilder.js: 79kb
    (plus a few inline scripts)

    All the above creates render blocking and “unnecessary” script/style warnings in Google PageSpeed as well as greatly increasing “Time to Interactive” and “Total Blocking Time.” In addition, my theme loads jQuery in the footer but since the plugin loads the scripts with a dependency, jQuery loads in the header.

    All of the above results in about a 10-15 point drop in PageSpeed score. At some point, I’d like to completely remove jQuery but that will not be possible with this plugin. I would recommend setting up a development site and testing it yourself.
