The last frame in this story is a video without audio. The WordPress Web Story plugin is recommending in the ‘Checklist’ that I add a caption to this frame. Is that necessary? I don’t want my web story to be penalized in search because it doesn’t fulfill all of the recommendations within the plugin Checklist but it seems strange that I would need to add a caption for this frame. Suggestions?

  • @shanemery Thank you for the post. Without captions, your audience needs to be able to listen to the audio to follow your story. This may limit who engages with your content and when they are able to do so. The checklist suggests users add captions to videos because it could be a potential accessibility issue. With captions in place, it will keep content inclusive and search engines will have an easier time understanding the content of your story when crawling it. While the checklist will surface any recommendations we find, you have final control and can publish a story with those known warnings/issues and take the message with a grain of salt. Hope this helps.

I just created a ticket for us to consider not showing the message if a video clearly has no audio. Until we implement that, take it with a grain of salt as suggested and ignore it for that video ??
