• I am in the process of restarting two moribund blogs hosted by iPage.
After updating the blogs seem to be OK BUT I am unable to connect the MSWord blog post to the blog url.

I tried using the blog url and the wordpress address url ( https://www.earth01.net/Rambling/WPfiles) followed by /xmlrpc.php .

I have confirmed that that file is in the WPfiles folder.

I can post normally, but have been unable to connect MSWord or LiveWriter.

Suggestions? iPage tried to help, but so far without success!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • What error message are you seeing?

Message from word when trying to register the blog:

“Word cannot register your account. The provider where you are trying to publish is unavailable. Contact your provider for assistance.”

After a week of working on this it is still unresolved.
    Any suggestions welcome.

Sorry for the lack of response.

But, unfortunately, I don’t have a clue why you’re unable to connect.

As a test, I just tried registering my own blog and 2 client blogs to MS Office (2016), and all three connected straightaway without a problem.

have concluded that the problem is not with the url, but perhaps with some coding within php files…. I am not familiar with those. But if I put the post url https://www.earth01.net/Rambling/WPfiles/xmlrpc.php directly into a browser I get the response: “XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only”.

When I use that url to try and post from msword or Live writer I get “can’t connect to your blog service 409 conflict”

“409 conflict” is more likely to be a server issue and not “coding within PHP file”, and I’ll suggest you talk to your host about it.

There can be many reasons for this, but, for shared hosting, the common reason I’ve seen is some ModSec (security) rule interfering with the connection (or the connecting device’s IP being in some denylist.)
