• Hi,

I have a plugin that adds a messaging functionality to my WordPress + WooCommerce website. The messaging is between me and my individual paying customers. In the messages, me and my customers can attach images. All of the images sent in messages get saved to my WordPress Media Library in order to create download links that get placed in the messages https://www.mydomain.com/wp-content/uploads/(year)/(month)/(file name).(file type) (Screenshot).

My questions are: Is this a good idea? Will this negatively affect the weight & speed of my website? Is there a better way of sharing images that does not involve me storing all of the images on my server or is this the standard way?

    Thanks in advance

Since this is PRIVATE CHAT, I’ll be more concerned about privacy and security, than performance — since all uploaded files will be PUBLIC and indexed by Google (unless you’re taking special care to prevent unauthenticated AND unauthorized access).

    Hi @gappiah,

    Thank you for your answer.

Could you please expand a little more on this?

I will be selling graphic design related services online. People that purchase a package will have a dedicated communication channel where they can send messages and attach files to discuss their order with me.

Why does this raise concerns about privacy and security? Why will all of the files be public and indexed by Google? What do you mean by “taking special care to prevent unauthenticated AND unauthorized access”?

    Thanks
