If the plugin didn’t work, then the problem might have occurred because of the difference caused by hard crop and soft crop. Could you please go to Settings > Media and see if the checkbox for “Crop thumbnail to exact dimensions (normally thumbnails are proportional)” is checked or not? Please check the box if it is unchecked. You can see this screenshot for reference. Also visit this site if you want to learn about hard crop and soft crop.

For featured images of your posts you need to upload images with 800px (width) x 445px (height).
After that you will see that your Home page will look good.
