Related post featured image getting cropped instead of resized

I add a fairly large feature image to a post and when it shows up in related posts thumbnails, and the recent posts on home page, it is getting cropped instead of resizing. How do I fix this? I’m using twentytwenty theme with latest version of wordpress and theme. In my media settings I have the thumbnail cropped checkbox unchecked.

I really need the image to resize rather than crop because the crop cuts out the title of the post which is in the image.

Any help would be appreciated.
