Longterm Simple Tags user here, I was surprised to see the rebrand…

Although one of the tag providers I use disappeared in the update? In fact most of them did – there are only 2 now. Your intro text here still says:

“Term suggestion from Yahoo! Content Analysis, OpenCalais, Alchemy, Zemanta, Tag The Net, Tag4Site, dataTXT and local terms with AJAX request’

But now it’s only OpenCalais and Tag4Site – yes some didn’t work anymore, but the Russian one – dataTXT? still did, and I used that quite a lot. I did have API keys for a lot of the others, like Alchemy/Zemanta but never could get them to work.

    Is it coming back?

    And indeed Tag4Site I get:

“Tag4Site API error #101: tag detector service is not responced” – so 1 tag provider really, and Opencalais isn’t that great. :-/

    Hi @timbearcub

Sorry about the confusion there. We took over the plugin recently and inherited a ton of reports about those APIs not working. We couldn’t get any of them to work.

OpenCalais and Tag4Site are the only ones we thought were fixable (although they don’t work right now). Most of the services were just dead.

However, I think you’re right. dataTXT / Dandelion may be fixable also.

If you were using that, can I ask you to roll back to 3.0.0. We’ll see if we can release a working version of dataTXT / Dandelion to 3.0.2.

    Update on this:

    – OpenCalais seems to be hidden behind several layers of Enterprise sales pitches and broken websites. But it is possible to get an API key. We may be able to fix it.

    – The Tag4Site is throwing database errors everywhere and doesn’t have a working SSL. I think that has to be ditched.

    – Dandelion does seem to be the only one working. Sorry for the mistake. We’ll restore it in the next version.

OK thanks for letting me know, I’ve rolled back for now,

Thanks for all the work on this! Look forward to this becoming bigger and better in future.

Yes it was Dandelion I used a lot, the responses were very good from there.

I’d like to add one thing about dataTXT / Dandelion. This site produced the best results and I’d really like to see it added back. The results were often filled with lots of “non-breaking space” terms and other similar useless, but it still produced great results. If you can work with them to fix that, it would be awesome!

Thanks for your support on this very useful plugin.

Thanks for the helpful feedback everyone.

The old version had 3 different options for Dandelion, and 2 were broken. There should be a new update this week with one working option.

Hi everyone. Please check the latest update.

Version 3.0.2 should have solid support for dataTXT / Dandelion.

OpenCalais is still buggy and may be a candidate for removal.

Please let us know if we can improve this feature more.

Seems to be working fine. Thanks again for supporting this great plugin!

Yes thanks for this – had to re-add my Dandelion API details but it is working fine. Like the new? ability to tune the accuracy level – I usually prefer broader and then choose from those.

And thanks for adding my fix for the OpenCalais API in as well – my first ever Git submit!

OpenCalais has been odd for a long time – sometimes it works great, sometimes it gives weird results, it is 50/50, or maybe a bit better, 60/40 working to not.

Thanks for the feedback, @moviedebuts and @timbearcub. I’m glad this is working better.

Thanks for the code @timbearcub. Yes, OpenCalais still isn’t solved 100%. We’ll do some more debugging and see if it is solvable.
