• I have WPBlacklist installed and currently updated with blacklists. I have entered every spammed URL I have received into the blacklist as well as imported the default blacklist file.

However, every single time I post a new entry to the weblog, the post IMMEDIATELY gets the same comment posted to it. It manages to sneak through the blacklist and posts as soon as I post the entry. I have to manually edit and delete the comment myself.

Is there something to be done about this? WPBlacklist takes care of everything else flawlessly.

    My URL is https://www.hyperplexia.net

    Thanks for any help.

  • Ahh…. looks like you got hit by the infamous pre-loading-spammer.
What has happened is this person simply posted directly w/o using the comments page, incrementing the postid each time. This results in a mass amount of spam linked to posts that don’t exist yet. Then as soon as you post with a post id, the comment automagically apears. Unfortunaly, the only way to clean it out is via phpMyAdmin, or what ever DB admin screen you might have.

You’ll want this to prevent it in the future, and this or this to clean out existing items.

Sounds like the comments are already in your database waiting for matching posts to arrive.

The Codex might be of assistance here….

Actually all you have to do to prevent it is upgrade to v1.2.2. Then, as TG mentioned, do one of the two to get rid of the spam:

    https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/spam/#sql

FYI, TechGnome is the one who discovered the vulnerability and create the fix.
