i’ve migrated from wp.com to wp.org; wp.com helped migrate my followers across – which is great. I also understand that the number of likes on a post is reset following a migartion from wp.com to wp.org.

but wp.com also stated that “[my] post likes are still loading” which is ‘be a host issue’ (as if they hosted it they’d be able to look at it and sort at their end)

and yet I’ve contacted my host who state it can’t be an issue with them and that I should pay a developer to look into and try to fix the problem

I now feel like i’m being given the run around…

I don’t want to pay for a developer – just to sort the issue that wp.com state is a host issue, and that my state can not be an issue with either wp.com or wp.org…which is rather confusing!

And I’ve had post ‘likes’ since the migration (one today – the link post I included), and they don’t show either. I know it can take up to 48 hours to show, but I’ve had plenty,. and none are showing whatsoever.

The only post I’ve managed to get to show a like, is one I liked myself as an experiment…

and thoughts or advice or wisdom on this issue?

    many thanks in advance

    Hi there

When I load the page you mentioned, I just see “Loading…” in the Likes section.

This is most often caused by something else installed on the site that’s interfering. The quickest way to figure out if something is interfering is to test for a theme or plugin conflict.

I know it’s less than ideal, but could you please try the following:

    – Temporarily deactivate all the site’s plugins except for Jetpack and clear your browser’s cache.
    – Then try loading that page again. If you can see your likes there, then we’ll know that another plugin is conflicting here. You can re-enable your plugins one by one, loading that page again in between, until you find the one causing the conflict. You can leave it disabled or reach out to the plugin developer for a fix.

If disabling plugins doesn’t help, it may be the theme.

    – Temporarily switch your theme to a WordPress default theme like Twenty Twenty. Then try loading that page again. If you can see your likes there, then you know it’s a problem with the theme, and you can reach out to the theme developer for a fix.

Let us know how that goes.

thanks for your helpful input – it is most gratefully appreciated.

I’d be willing to try that (the plugins thing), but this was already happening before any plugins were added…in addition, wp.com support tell me they are appearing on a reader: some [post migration] likes are appearing – others aren’t.

they’re investigating it from their end, and suspect an issue with Jetpack as the most likely culprit.

I tried previewing the site in twenty twenty, but it made no difference.

before I consider deactivating the plugins I have loaded, is it easy to deactivate then reactivate – or do things have to be reconfigured once you’ve deactivated then reactivated? (I hope that makes sense – don’t want to undo the many hours I’ve already spent migrating over to wp.org)

    cheers

    Hey @berrybunchclan,

before I consider deactivating the plugins I have loaded, is it easy to deactivate then reactivate – or do things have to be reconfigured once you’ve deactivated then reactivated?

I can’t speak with certainty for the settings and preferences in other plugins and themes, but in general, settings are usually preserved. For Jetpack in particular, your settings are saved on our end in our cloud, so even if you deactivate Jetpack, the settings will be preserved when you re-activate.

If possible, I recommend making a backup of your site before deactivating anything, if you’re even the slightest bit concerned.

I tried previewing the site in twenty twenty, but it made no difference.

Since you’re using one of the WordPress default themes (Twenty Fourteen), it’s very unlikely that the culprit is your theme. Further to what my colleague Dan mentioned above, a constant “Loading” message on the Likes button typically indicates a JavaScript error. These errors are usually caused by a bad plugin that has erroneous code.

Deactivating all of your plugins (except Jetpack) and then, (assuming the “Loading…” message goes away) re-activating them one by one to see which one makes the problem return is the way to go here.

Let us know what you find!

Thanks Jen (and Dan) and thanks for input.

Can i come back in a while to you? Because WP.com have now passed this issue along to jetpack for them to investigate – so I figure I should wait for that response to come back. I don’t have a paid plan, so I’m told it won’t be especially quick.

I’ll confirm – here – once jetpack have concluded their side of things with you, here and then go down the disabling–the-plugins route.

Many thanks for all of your assistance and information; it is very much appreciated!

As soon as Jetpack DO come back to me, I’ll reply here with an update.

ok. so in an act of frustration, having downloaded the site, i turned off every plug in (including jetpack) (i deleted the cache, and downloaded a browser – just for the purpose of viewing, with no chance of it remembering anything)

    no change

so it isn’t the theme, or the plugins…………

i’ll continue to wait for jetpack to come back to me.

but if there is anythying else i can do, i’d be most grateful of any further suggestions.

    many thanks

    Hey Andy!

The Jetpack forum is a great place where to share problems so other users who might be experiencing the same can leverage the knowledge and fix the same problem.

If you have contacted the Jetpack team via ticket/email, well… it’s us ??
We can go ahead addressing your issue via email in private and close this thread.

Let me know if I got this right!

    Hi Stef,

I chatted with wp.com support, who said they’d email the Jetpack team on my behalf.

I had an email from Joshua – which I’ve now replied to.

I updated him that i’d had an automated email from wordpress stating that the jetpack plugin had caused a fatal error…

so yes, i’m in contact with the jetpack team (as long as Joshua is one of your colleagues and not from another pat of wordpress?)

    cheers
