I have a website which sells Automotive Accessories.

I need help with categories and taxonomies. Each product needs to be assigned to a custom taxonomy. (This needs to be done different to the categories.)

    For example,
    1. Make of Vehicle
    2. Model of Make
    3. Series of Model
    4. Variant of Series

A great example is shown on this website which uses a different CMS – https://www.tjm.com.au/. I also need to have a frontend search functionality like the site above.

What is the best plugin to do this? Or what is the best way to do this?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hey there,

The first good solution here would be categories – you’d set the make, model, etc., as different categories, and then you could use them in filters. You could use tags for this, but tags don’t have the structure and hierarchy of categories, so it wouldn’t be a good fit.

If you can’t use categories for some reason, then you’ll need to look into creating custom fields. From there, you’ll need a plugin or customization that can filter those fields on the front end.

I did some searching and find this article as a good starting place:

    I hope that helps!

    Thanks for your response.

However, as mentioned it can’t be done using the categories, as the products are separated into categories already of what they are – bull bars, lights, tub liners etc.

    I’ll continue my search.

That’s exactly why I offered other suggestions beyond categories. ?? Good luck and please do let us know what you find!
